Ashram Rules
Our
rules are not judgments on certain behaviors; they are here
to preserve an environment that we honor and enjoy.
Samaya is an earth-friendly commune
We at the ashram love our planet earth. We want to keep it clean. We
expect everyone who lives with us to have awareness about it -- using
just the right amount of water, gas and electricity, and using products
that respect the earth.
Samaya is a drug-free zone
We feel that alcohol, tobacco,
cannabis and other drugs bring in a certain heaviness that is out of
balance with the kind of energy we enjoy at Samaya. We cannot welcome
people who need to smoke or drink, even if they go outside the
ashram to do so.
Samaya is a mess-free zone
We feel that cleanliness contributes
to a sense of balance and harmony with the space. We like to keep a
clean environment, particularly in the communal areas
-- kitchen, showers, toilets. For us, living in a place of
meditation means, among other things, that we try to walk around with
awareness. When we notice that something needs to be done
(such as
sweeping the floor or emptying the compost), the job becomes our
meditation and is done with awareness and
joy.
Samaya is a meat-free zone
We find that
wholesome vegetarian meals contribute to a sense of lightness that
is in balance with the life we like to live. We ask guests not
to bring
meat or fish products to Samaya.
